Gibson J-1000 Broken Headstock Repair
The break, which is clearly visible here, is not uncommon for this type of design. Once repaired, we will be refinishing the neck so the crack is not visible. The natural wear in the finish towards the bottom of the image will be left alone however.
Here is a shot looking at the truss rod nut. You can see that the break in the headstock extended into this cavity.
With repairs for broken headstocks, we feed glue into the break and clamp it together. Once dried, it will look something like this. While structurally sound, it doesn't look very appealing.
Here, you can see the headstock amidst the refinishing process. You can see where the new and old finish are being blended together. You can also see the previously mentioned wear spot that has not been touched.
